Cuban Fine Arts/Ed Steinberg and Ideal Glass Studios are pleased to announce the debut of Ars Moriendi, media artist John Sanborn’s newest experiment in Augmented Reality storytelling.
As an AR ghost story, the delight of discovery is key to experiencing the details of the lives of two ghosts, Norma (Sarah Cecilia Bukowsky) and Maria (Lali Wilde) whose confessional and enigmatic comments about the after-life are chilling, soulful and funny.
Ars Moriendi is an Augmented Reality installation that employs pre-placed electronic triggers, called “instances”, invisible to the unaided eye, but visible when using a custom AR app and scanning the rooms of The Mansion, using the viewer’s phone or tablet. Approaching each instance will launch a paired video clip on viewers’ mobile devices so they will see, hear and interact with over 30 instances of ghostly presence.
As an added element of surprise, 20 AR triggers will be hidden from observation, requiring the viewer to be continually scanning the space so they can play those clips. These wild card instances extend the richness of Norma and Maria’s stories, revealing intimate moments as they act out as only ghosts can.
